Structure Fires & Small jobs - San Antonio, TX - November 2017 - Connecticut Fire Photographers Association
Companies worked a 2-Alarm High Rise fire early this evening at a 10 story apartment building in the 1200 blk of Fair Ave on the cities SE side. Engine Co 29 checked out with nothing showing and advised all companies that they were investigating. Upon making the 7th floor, crews were faced with light to moderate smoke and found very heavy smoke coming from the fire apartment unit. Battalion 6-0 assumed command upon arrival and assigned Engine 13 to Lobby control and directed incoming units to assist with evacuation. Engine 29 began fire attack with a “house line” and at one point, fire was self venting from the Charlie Delta Corner. BC6 requested a 2nd alarm upon the fire venting. While other crews were fighting fire, Ladder 29 assigned to search, found a male victim who was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center/Brooks Army Medical Center priority 1 with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Engine 29 was able to get a quick knock down and crews assisted with evacuating all the residents, most of with were elderly. The fire was held to the origin apartment with minor to moderate smoke damage to surrounding apartments. Arson was called out and crews were on scene for well over 2 hours conducting overhaul and salvage operations.
