Daniel Gonska - Connecticut Fire Photographers Association

Bio: I am a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Olean Fire Department in Olean, New York (Cattaraugus County). I recently celebrated by 16 year anniversary (June 10th) with the department. I have been around the fire service my entire life. My dad and uncle are Life Members with the Allegany Engine Company and my younger brother is an assistant chief with the Weston Mills Fire Department.

Emergency! was one of my favorite TV shows growing up. I always wanted to be like Johnny and Roy. I became a Basic EMT in the spring of 2000 and moved up through the ranks of the EMS world from Basic to Critical Care Tech finally to Paramedic.

My dad is a professional photographer and taught me everything I know about photography. I would go to work with him and watch him develop and process film from start to finish.  I started my own business specializing in emergency services photography in 2013.

On July 1, 2018 I had the honor to participate in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in New York City. I climbed 80 floors at 3 WTC in full turnout gear and an SCBA. I had the honor of climbing in memory of FDNY Firefighter Joseph Hunter - Squad 288, Queens. I finished 3rd out of over 400 climbers in collecting over $2700 in donations for the Ray Pfeifer Foundation.
