2 Alarm Commercial Building Fire - 7-9 Elm St, New Haven, CT - 7/19/19
07/17/19 - New Haven, CT - Firefighters received a predawn wake up in the form of a box alarm for a report of a fire in a commercial building downtown. The deputy chief radioed that he could see it from fire headquarters. Engine 4 arrived and reported smoke and fire showing from the first floor of a four story, residential over commercial. Firefighters stretch into the first floor restaurant only to find that the fire originated in the basement and was running the walls. A second alarm was transmitted on the box as companies tried to get ahead of the fire. All searches proved negative as trucks opened up to help stop the vertical fire spread. All occupants were evacuated and one firefighter was treated for exhaustion. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
