2 Alarm Dwelling Fire - 1116 Quinnipiac Ave, New Haven, CT - 12/1/19
New Haven 2nd alarm 1116 Quinnipiac Ave dwelling fire 12/01/19 New Have, CT - Firefighters got the call for smoke in the basement slightly before two p.m. Companies responding on the box reported they could "see it". The battalion chief arrived on scene reported smoke from a private dwelling, possible fire in the basement. Companies quickly went to work, but were not able to stop the heavy fire in the basement from extending throughout this balloon frame house. Companies reported fire rapidly extending, prompting the battalion chief to transmit the second alarm. Crews rotated throughout the dwelling and its three floors, but were not able to catch up to the fire. Hampered by snow, wind, and holes burnt in the floors, firefighters were pulled from the home to regroup. An exterior attack was initiated to drown out the fire. Firefighters worked for more than two hours to bring the stubborn fire under control. All occupants made it out prior to the department's arrival. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
