Structure Fire - Diva Nails, Dayville, CT - 1/12/17
A small fire at the Killingly Commons Shopping Plaza in Dayville was quickly extinguished after exceptional response from from all Killingly fire departments early this morning, according to Dayville Fire Chief Kevin Ide.
While Ide said that most calls for fire alarms—which often turn out to be false alarms—go out during the nighttime hours, volunteer firefighters sprang into action just as they would for any other call when they were alerted to the fire alarm going off at the Diva Nails store at about 12 minutes before 1:00 am this morning.
Ide said that when he first arrived, he circled the building and found no external signs of a fire, but noticed a small flame inside the store—at which point he called the incident in as a working fire.
First responders attempted to open the door with a rapid-entry key, but it wasn't working, and firefighters had to break the door down to reach the flames. The fire was quickly knocked down, Ide said, adding that additional mutual aid responders came in handy for overhaul work and searching for further areas of ignition.
“Everything was quickly done, within an hour,” Ide stated. “We couldn't have had a better outcome from this....The response was awesome from all departments.”
The Dayville Fire Department was assisted by mutual aid units from the Williamsville, Attawaugan, East Killingly, South Killingly, and Danielson fire departments.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire—which Ide said was knocked down by about 1:09 am, and deemed to be under control at about 1:21.
