South Windsor firefighters work at a house fire, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, in South Windsor. The fire came in around 4pm at 234 Long Hill Road when a passing motorist noticed smoke coming from the house. Three dogs escaped when police arrived and the open the door. The three cats were removed by firefighters, 2 responded quickly to the oxygen they were given a third seemed to be unconscious as firefighters continued to work on him. The house sustained heavy damage to the kitchen and living room, the area around a wood stove sustained the heaviest damage, Chief Kevin Cooney said.
