Vehicle Fire - Yaphank, NY - 12/11/20
Yaphank N.Y- On Friday December 11, 2020 moments after 10 PM the Yaphank Fire Department and Suffolk County Police 5th Precinct were dispatched to a reported car fire in the vicinity of Speedway located at 80 Yaphank Ave off Old Dock Rd. Chief 5-30-30 was first enroute along with Assistant Chief Kieran Donlon [5-30-32]. On arrival Suffolk Police advised their dispatch that they had a fully involved auto and were blocking the road and to update fire.
Chief 30 arrived first and blocked the road and advised that he needed the first due Engine 5-30-7 to stretch the bumper line on their arrival. Engine 7 and Engine 9 responded into the scene. Crews from both engines worked under the direction of Operations Command {Chief Donlon 32} to extinguish the flames. Firefighters soaked the car after extinguishing the visible flames to ensure that there were no hotspots and that it would re flare. Officers from the truck company Captain Don Schaaf and Lieutenant Eddie Kress assisted firefighters with operations and used the TIC. Once firefighters were sure the fire was out the scene was placed under control by orders of Chief 30 who was in charge of the scene. The scene was turned over to Suffolk Police who waited for a tow to remove the vehicle.
