Mastic - MVA with O/T and Entrap {04/10/2022}
At about 3:18 PM on Sunday April 10, 2022 Mastic FD and Mastic Ambulance were activated for reports of a motor vehicle crash at Mastic Rd and Moriches Ave. Fire-Com advised chief of department Rudy Sunderman and Assistant Chief Gene Martucci that they were taking multiple calls for a vehicle overturned with 1 person trapped . On arrival the chiefs confirmed that 1 car was upside down and the driver was still inside.
Rescue 10 was the first apparatus to arrive on scene. The crew of Rescue 10 was directed to bring the cutters and spreaders (Jaws of life) up into the scene. Engine 5-12-1 and Mini Pumper 5-12-5 responded in to assist. Crews used the Jaws of life for several minutes working to get the woman out of the car while other members from Mastic FD and EMS also tended to her from the window on the other side of the vehicle. Mastic FD operations were under the command of chief of department Rudy Sunderman ( 5-12-30) and Mastic Ambulance company were under the command of Assistant Chief Jennifer Lian ( 5-37-31).
Mastic EMS transported the driver to a local hospital. Suffolk Police and Mastic Fire Police assisted with traffic and crowd control during operations. No other injuries were reported. All units were back in service in a bout an hour or so after the alarm was received.
