Mastic Trailer Fire Sunrise Hwy Service Rd 2/12/22
Mastic N.Y.- On Saturday February 12th at approximately 5:31 PM the Mastic Fire Department was activated for a report of smoke in the area of the Sunrise Hwy North Service Rd. The Chiefs quickly responded to toward the area. Chief Rudy Sunderman advised that he believed the smoke was coming from a lot that stores trailers.
When Chief Sunderman arrived at trailer yard he found a large trailer being used for storage with active fire. There were numerous other trailers parked in close proximity of the one on fire. Mutual aid was requested to the scene from Manorville FD also due to this. The first due engines arrived and hit the hydrant and began the long stretch up the dirt path to the trailers. Lines were stretched . Firefighters from Mastic went to work fighting the fire in the trailer while Manorville firefighters were instructed by Chief Sunderman to go into the woods with a second line to wet down an area of woods that was of concern due to potential embers from the original fire going into the woods. The fire destroyed the 1 trailer however due to the quick actions of the firefighters it did not spread to the other trailers parked close to it or to the woods.
The scene was turned over to Suffolk Police 7th Precinct officers and the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal office . Mastic Ambulance was also on scene and no injuries were reported.
