Mastic- Working Fire- Mastic Rd 2/12/22
Mastic N.Y.- On Saturday February 12th at approximately 7:02 AM the Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance Company were toned out for a reported residential structure Fire on the 900th block of Mastic Road. Chief Rudy Sunderman (5-12-30) was first on scene and was met with heavy smoke showing from a 1 story residence and radioed back to fire-com for a reactivation on a working fire. Mastic Engine 1 (5-12-1) was first due and arrived on scene. The crew quickly hit the hydrant and pulled 1 hand line and went to work.
They were soon Joined by crews from Engine’s 5-12-4 , 5-12-3 and also Engine 5-13-3 from Mastic Beach FD. As crews made entry into the home the located the fire toward the rear of the home and in the attic . According to fire officials all occupants made it out of the home prior to arrival and the family do was rescued on arrival. An aggressive attack was made to quickly Make an attack and knock down the fire. About 3 dozen fire fighters were on scene to battle the fire. The mutual aid was provided by Mastic Beach for 1 Engine , Center Moriches for Rapid Intervention Team ( RIT) and Yaphank to stand by at Mastic’s HQ.
Mastic and Shirley Ambulance Companies responded to the scene also and provided support and rehab. According to Fire Officials one civilian was checked by EMS. A Fire Marshal Was Requested to the scene and some members remained on scene until he arrived. At this time the cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
