
Mastic Working fire Poospatuck Ln {2023.07.02}
Mastic, N.Y.- On Sunday July 2, 2023 at about 10:58 AM the Mastic Fire Department and Mastic
Ambulance company were both activated to respond for a structure fire on Poospatuck Ln between
Shinnecock Ave & Wills Ave. Shortly After Fire com advised EMS was on scene advising the rear of the
home was well involved. On arrival Mastic FD Captain Rudy Sunderman {5-12-50 } advised he had active
fire in the rear of the home and requested Fire-Com reactivate for a Signal 13-35 { Working Fire } and
start out mutual aid to the scene .
Engines 5-12-1 and 5-12-4 arrived on scene and crews immediately went to work pulling lines to the rear
of the home. There was concerns over propane tanks that were in the rear as well. On his arrival
Assistant Chief of Department Steve Januskiewicz {5-12-31} Was in command of the scene. Firefighters
from Center Moriches , East Moriches and Brookhaven Fire departments came in to the scene and
assisted firefighters from Mastic With knocking down the fire.
Members conducted a thorough overhaul. Mastic and Shirley EMS members were on scene to assist
incase of any injuries as well as Firefighter Rehab being conducted by Shirley Ambulance. No injuries
were reported. A fire marshal was requested to the scene to investigate which is protocol. Suffolk Police
assisted Mastic & Brookhaven FD Fire Police with Road Closure as well as traffic control and Yaphank FD
stood by at Mastic FD HQ and handled the additional alarms that came in while operations were
underway.
