Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a motor vehicle accident at 6:35 p.m. Oct. 13, 2016 on Killingworth Road in Higganum. A single driver lost control of his vehicle, veered off the north-bound side of the road, struck a tree and flipped his vehicle onto its roof. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the driver was trapped inside and was trying to self-extricate. Firefighters broke the rear door’s glass to gain access to the patient. The driver was taken to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance. The vehicle was leaking oil and firefighters applied absorbent pads to the area. The north-bound side of Killingworth Road was shut down at the intersection of Little City Road for about 45 minutes while crews worked to remove the vehicle. Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a single motor vehicle accident at 4:25 p.m. Nov. 11 on Little City Road. The operator lost control of his vehicle, struck a ledge on the side of the road and rolled his vehicle. Firefighters helped the driver exit his vehicle and the driver was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Ambulance. Firefighters closed a portion of Little City Road for about an hour. This was the second MVA last week. At 5 p.m. Nov. 9, HVFCo. was dispatched to a three-car motor vehicle accident on Route 9 between exits 9 and 10. One driver, complaining of chest pains, was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance. The drivers of the other two vehicles refused medical treatment. HVFCo. helped control traffic around the scene of the accident until the vehicles were removed by a towing company. Connecticut State Police is investigating. (Photo by Olivia Drake)
