Haddam Volunteer Fire Company was one of eight departments that responded to a structure fire on Route 148 in Killingworth on Feb. 14. Shortly after 10:30 a.m. a homeowner discovered fire and heavy smoke on the second story of his home. He immediately told his wife and two children to go outside and he called 911. Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire in the home's attic and used water from Killingworth's tanker and engine to extinguish the fire. The fire also caused damage to the home's second floor.
