2-Alarm mill fire - 74 Oak St Bridgeport, CT - 6/26/2022
On Sunday, June 26, 2022, during the annual fireworks around 9:35 pm, the Bridgeport ECC started receiving calls of a vacant structure on fire in the 1 block of Oak St. This David-5 assignment consisted of Engine 4, Engine 1, Engine 12, Engine 16 as RIT, Ladder 5, Ladder 11, Rescue 5, Safety Officer 1, Battalion 1, and Battalion 2. Responding companies could see heavy smoke in the sky long before they arrived. Engine 4 arrived on scene to heavy fire throughout a vacant 2-story mill building. A 2nd alarm was quickly ordered bringing Engine 7, Engine 10, and Ladder 10 to the scene. Ladder 6 was also special-called to the scene for their tower ladder. Companies engaged in a surround-and-drown operation. Companies were heavily engaged for over an hour and a half with 3 ladder pipes and several ground lines until the fire was knocked down. Cars 2 and 3 also responded to this incident. Companies from Fairfield, Stratford, Milford, and Westport covered the city during this fire and responded to an extreme influx of calls during this time, including medical emergencies, car accidents, and a vehicle fire which was upgraded to a structure fire. There were no injuries during this fire. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal's office is working to determine the cause of this fire.
