2nd Alarm - 215 North Ave Bridgeport, CT - 10/24/2022
On Monday, October 24, 2022, around 10:10 pm, the Bridgeport ECC received multiple calls for a structure fire with possible entrapment in the area of North Ave & Front St. This "John-5" assignment consisted of Engine 10, Engine 1, Engine 15, Engine 12 as RIT, Ladder 10, Ladder 5, Rescue 5, Safety Officer 1, Battalion 1, and Battalion 2. Units were updated en route that it was possibly a warehouse on Island Brook Ave. Companies arrived to heavy smoke showing from a 1-story 50x100 warehouse physically on Island Brook, but addressed to the 200 block of North Ave. Battalion 2 quickly gave a 2nd alarm soon after their arrival, bringing Engine 3, Engine 6, and Ladder 6 to the scene. 2nd Alarm companies were originally asked to stage but were quickly put to work. Companies encountered heavy fire conditions in the center of the warehouse. It was a very stubborn fire with very low visibility but companies were able to get a handle on it in about an hour and a half. Originally, Ladder 11 was called above the 2nd alarm, however, it was soon decided to reposition Ladder 6 instead, and Ladder 11 was returned to service. Ladder 6 was repositioned to the rear of the building to work the rear roofline. With the fire on the interior of the building extinguished, Ladder 6 and Ladder 5 spent another hour or so chasing pockets of fire in the rear roofline. The fire was placed under control around 1:20 in the morning on Tuesday, October 25th. Car 1, Car 3, and FM-6 also responded to this incident. There were no injuries, and the building was already fully evacuated when fire department personnel arrived. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
