2nd Alarm with Mayday - 752 Park St Bridgeport, CT - 8/2/2022
On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, around 10:10 pm, the Bridgeport ECC received reports of a structure fire in the 700 block of Park St. This "John-1" assignment consisted of: Engine 10, Engine 1, Engine 6, Engine 15 as RIT, Ladder 5, Ladder 10, Rescue 5, Safety Officer 1, Battalion 1, and Battalion 2. Engine 10 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing from the rear and declared the working fire. Companies encountered heavy fire on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a 2-1/2 story wood frame occupied multiple dwelling, as well as heavy clutter throughout the 2nd floor. A 2nd alarm was transmitted shortly after the first "CAN" report, as companies continued to battle heavy fire on the 3rd floor. This brought Engine 3, Engine 12, and Ladder 6 to the scene. Companies were able to get a handle on the fire and knock the rest of it down as the 2nd alarm companies arrived on scene. Companies transitioned into overhaul mode. During the course of overhaul, a firefighter fell through the floor from the 2nd floor down to the 1st floor. A Mayday was declared, bringing Engine 4 and Ladder 11 to the scene. The firefighter was able to be extricated and was transported to the hospital with a shoulder injury. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants. There were no other injuries. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
