On Sunday, January 8, 2023, around 12 noon, the Norwalk ECC received reports of a house fire in the 1 block of Betmarlea Rd in West Norwalk. Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, Truck 1, Truck 2, Rescue 2, and Car 2 responded to the scene. Car 2 arrived first on scene under the command of Deputy Chief Steve Shay and reported a single-story private dwelling with fire showing from the front. A New Canaan tanker was requested, as well as a 4th engine soon after, bringing Engine 5 to the scene. Due to New Canaan's tanker being out of service, Wilton Engine Tanker 4 responded to the scene. Companies encountered heavy fire on the exterior and in the attic of the dwelling, the fire had also broken through the roof above the garage. At some point during the fire, the fire was upgraded to a 3rd Alarm. Companies were able to knock down the main body of fire in around a half hour. Companies remained on scene for several hours afterwards performing extensive overhaul. There were no injuries. The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
