Around 1:30pm the Fairfield ECC received a call of fire coming from a gas line underneath cabinets. Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 5 as RIT, Rescue 1, Ladder 2, and Car 3 responded. The fire was found to be out on arrival so the RIT engine was dropped, however there was a heavy smoke condition in the building as a result of the fire. Companies remained on scene for an hour metering and venting the building. The cause of the fire was determined to be an improperly disposed of cigarette, and not a gas line.
