Around 3:30pm, a census worker going door to door saw smoke coming from the attic area of 31-33 Sampson St. They alerted the family inside and got them out safely and called 911. This David-6 assignment consisted of Engine 4, Engine 3, Engine 12, Engine 16 as RIT, Ladder 5, Ladder 11, Rescue 5, Safety 1, Battalion 1 and Battalion 2. Car 2 and FM-8 later responded, with a request for Engine 6 as well that was recalled soon after. On arrival, Ladder 5 reported smoke showing from the roof area of a 1 1/2 story frame. Companies had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause.
