Chimney fire - 126 Figlar Ave Fairfield, CT - 10/29/2022
On Saturday, October 29, 2022, around 8:35pm the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center recieved a report of a chimney fire in a home in the 100 block of Figlar Avenue. Engine 2, Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, and Car 3 were dispatched to the scene. Company 2 and Car 3 arrived on scene quickly and Car 3 reported fire showing from the chimney. Ladder 2 put ladders to the roof as Engine 2 stretched lines off their truck. After a quick evaluation of the scene, Car 3 declared a working fire. Ladder 2 gained access to the top of the chimney and found fire venting from the chimney and minor extension into the spray foam insulation in the roof, which was quickly extinguished. The contents of the firebox were removed and Ladder 2 utilized water cans to darken down the fire from above before switching to chimney chains. Ladder 2 utilized their chimney chains to scrape the remaining creosote off the walls of the chimney and down into the firebox. The ashes and creosote were collected and brought outside where they were wet down. The fire was under control in about a half hour. Companies verified there was no further extension of the fire, ventilated the home and packed up. The scene was turned back over to the homeowners. There were no injuries or need for relocations.
