Dive Recovery - East Mountain Reservoir Waterbury, CT - 8/29/2022
On Monday, August 29, 2022, around 4:15 pm, Waterbury Police received a report that a person swimming in the East Mountain Reservoir had gone under and not resurfaced. A water rescue assignment was dispatched for Waterbury Fire. The Region 5 Dive Team was also activated for this incident. Due to the terrain on the trail to get to the last seen location, a UTV was requested from Prospect to the scene. Boats were deployed into the water and searched from above while members from the Region 5 Dive Team geared up and prepared to enter the water. Once the first diver was in the water, the missing swimmer was recovered approximately 20ft from shore. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other injuries. This incident remains an active investigation by the Waterbury Police Department. The emergency services of Waterbury, as well as the Region 5 Dive Team, would like to remind everyone that there is no swimming allowed at any time in the East Mountain Reservoir.
