Interior dumpster fire - 1401 Kings Hwy Fairfield, CT - 11/20/2022
On Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 8:01 pm the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center received notification of a fire alarm and burglar alarm sounding at 1401 Kings Highway. Engine 3, Ladder 2, and Car 3 along with Fairfield PD were dispatched to the location. Companies arrived to initially nothing showing from a very large 6-story apartment building, but were soon notified of smoke coming from the building in a different area. Car 3 requested for the alarm to be upgraded, bringing Engines 1, 2, 4, 5, and Rescue 1 to the scene. Companies further investigated and found smoke pushing from the 1st-floor parking garage on the Commerce Drive side of the building were able to quickly locate the source of the smoke to a trash room within the parking garage under the apartments on the Commerce Drive side of the building. Firefighters used rotary saws to gain access to the trash room through a closed rolling-shutter door, where they found 2 dumpsters on fire in the room. Lines were quickly stretched and the fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes. Companies remained on scene for about an hour after ventilating, overhauling, and confirming no extension from the fire room. The scene was turned over to the fire marshal's office and units soon returned to service. The Bridgeport and Westport Fire Departments provided station coverage to the town during this incident. Car 2, Car 5, FM-2, and Maintenance 1 also responded to this fire. There were no injuries or need for relocations. The Fairfield Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
