Laboratory fire - 196 University Drive Bridgeport, CT - 10/7/2022
On Friday, October 7, 2022, around 6:10 pm, the Bridgeport ECC received a report of a structure fire in the area of Linden Ave and Hazel St. This "Adam-1" assignment consisted of: Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 6, Engine 12 as RIT, Ladder 5, Ladder 11, Rescue 5, Safety Officer 1, Battalion 1, and Battalion 2. Companies were updated en route with an address in the 100 block of University Ave. Companies arrived on scene to smoke showing from the roof area of a 4 story educational facility on the University of Bridgeport campus. Companies went inside and investigated a smoke condition throughout the building. The source was soon located on the 2nd floor in a laboratory classroom. Companies encountered heavy smoke in the room and requested a line, the fire was quickly found involving a desk in the center of the room. Engine 3 stretched a line up to the fire floor and was able to quickly knock down the fire. Companies remained on scene for several hours ventilating the building and awaiting the arrival of the DEEP due to chemicals exposed in the laboratory. There were no injuries. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
