Structure fire - 210 Washington Ave Bridgeport, CT - 12/1/2021
Around 2 pm on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, the Bridgeport ECC received a report of a fire in the 200 block of Washington Ave. This Charlie-6 assignment consisted of Engine 3, Engine 1, Engine 4, Engine 7 as RIT, Ladder 5, Ladder 11, Rescue 5, Safety Officer 1, and both Battalions. Prior to arrival, a police officer reported a working fire on the 3rd floor. Companies arrived on the scene to nothing showing but soon reported smoke coming from the roof area. A working fire was soon called. Companies were able to contain the fire to the 3rd-floor laundry room with some slight extension into the attic. The fire was under control in around 30 minutes. Companies also dealt with an elevator rescue while on scene due to power being cut. Car 3, Training 1, Admin 1, and FM-7 also responded to this incident. There were no injuries or need for relocations. The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
A historical afternote: 34 years ago, this was the site of the L'Ambiance Plaza collapse. One of the worst disasters in state history, which, on April 23, 1987, killed 28 construction workers and injured 22.
