Commercial Building Fire - 1300blk Culebra, San Antonio, TX - 10/2/18
Engine Co No 10 laid out on a working fire in a well involved, single story commercial structure in the 1300 Culebra Rd in the Woodlawn section of the city. Engine Co. 10 reported very heavy fire upon their arrival, declaring a working fire just a few blocks away from their quarters and advised all companies that they would be in an offensive attack. Engine Co. No. 11 laid in from a hydrant as the second due motor and pulled a 2.5” attack line to assist with fire attack while Truck Co. No 11 and Heavy Rescue Co. No. 11 forced doors and took burglar bars off the windows and doors. Command quickly upgraded the assignment to a Box Alarm with special request of a second Battalion Chief. Upon making entry, crews encountered high heat and heavy smoke prompting interior crews to request for vertical ventilation. Thanks to an aggressive Truck Co. Engineer who prepositioned saws and ladders, Platform 11 was able to transition from forcible entry to vertical ventilation with ease. Truck Co. No 8 and Truck Co. No 6 assisted interior crews with the primary search and extension while all four engine companies operated handlines. Thanks to an aggressive and coordinated attack, crews were able to get a solid knockdown on the fire by the 30 min time stamp allowing BC 1-0 to place an out tap on the box alarm assignment.
