Major MVA - 4000 SW Military Drive, San Antonio, TX - 8/1/17
Companies of the 2nd battalion were kept busy this afternoon with a major Motor Vehicle Accident w/ 14 cars involved; 2 of which required extrication tools to be put to work to free the trapped occupants in the 4000blk of SW Military Dr. In total, the incident spanned approximately 3/4 of a mile with 3 major “impact zones” to include a rollover, and a vehicle into a structure. Originally, this was dispatched as a rollover, then as more 911 calls began to flood the SAFD Fire Alarm Office, a second address was dispatched due to some confusion on how large of an area there was and how many vehicles were involved. AirLife was stood up, but ultimately stood down. In total, there were 14 cars involved with 5 Critical patients, and 7 non critical transported including multiple pediatric patients, plus multiple patients that took themselves via POV. According to multiple sources, the pickup truck that ultimatelytly ended up in the Mobile Home was driving extremely erratic for an unknown reason at this time and caused all 3 of the wreaks. He was transported with critical injuries to University Hospital. Companies on the ticket were M07, M08, M16, M22, M25, M36, M50, E11, EN16, EN25, EN36, PL11, TK36, HR11, MOF4, and BC02.
