Crews made an aggressive and coordinated interior attack and made a quick knock on the fire and kept it held to the unit of origin. Responding companies were canceled and the fire was held to a “Working Box Alarm” response. Crews worked a small oven fire in the 910blk of Cherry st. Engine 1, Platform Ladder 1 and Engine 3 checked out with nothing showing and upon making the front door, found smoke and fire in the kitchen. A redline was pulled and crews downgraded the Box to a 1 & 1 response. Companies on the ticket were EN01, EN03, EN04, PL01, MSOU1, and BC03.
Crews of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th battalions worked a 2-11 apartment fire in the 2900 blk of Woodstone on the cities far Northwest side. Engine 51 checked out with fire showing from division 1 of a 3 story in the rear, 2 story in the front story apartment complex and advised that they would be offensive and pulling a line. Crews faced some difficulties with securing a water supply with a long lay and an incline and were slightly delayed prompting command to drop a 2nd alarm as a precaution with the amount of fire and evacuations still on going.. Companies assigned to division 2 were searching for extension and found fire in the walls and had smoke pushing from the Delta side roof. 51’s Truck put their main to the roof and were able to get a solid knock on the fire and prevent any more extension. Crews quickly transitioned from attack to salvage and overhaul operations to try and limit the damage of water in the 16 unit apartment building. In total 8 units were damaged by fire with no injuries reported. Battalion Chief 1-0 held command on a structure fire in the 1300blk of Thompson Place. Engine Co 33 checked out with a 1 story wood frame, with heavy fire going through the alpha and bravo sides of the dwelling. Engine 33 pulled a preconnect while Truck 33 completed the primary search. Another day, another fire on the east side. Engine 9, Ladder 9 and BC 6-0 had a working structure fire in the 100blk of H St. Engine 9 checked out with “..heavy fire pushing from the whole alpha side. We’ll be pulling a preconnect, Ladder 9… do your thing..” Engine 9 was assigned fire attack while Ladder 9 took care of the primary search, utilities, and vent while Battalion 6 held command. Crews made an aggressive transitional attack and held the fire to the front of the house. Engine 13 was assigned RIT on arrival and Engine 7 was held in staging. Engine Co 10 laid out on a single story, wood framed dwelling with fire showing on arrival tonight in the 2900 blk of W. Martin St. Engine 10 had fire showing from the Bravo/Charlie corner on arrival and pulled a preconnect while Ladder 8 had search and BC 1-0 held command with Platform-Ladder 11 assigned as the RIT. Engine 8 assisted with water supply and pulling an additional redline for overhaul. Crews had the fire knocked down within 10 min of arrival. Downtown companies worked a train derailment at the Union Pacific East Rail Yard in the Government Hill area of the city. Engine Co 3 assumed initial command and advised that they had 6 freight cars derailed at the corner of Muncey St & Duval St with power-lines down and a tree in the street. Crews checked with the train conductors and personal, who advised that there was no civilians on board, no injuries, and no fire. Command was transferred to Battalion Chief 6-0 who held companies in staging while Haz-Mat checked the manifest. Crews checked the stability of the train and found no hazards. The scene was cleared and transferred over to CPS and the Train Company reps. Companies of the 1st battalion worked a defensive dwelling fire earlier this afternoon in the 2100blk of W Travis St. Engine Co 08 checked out with a fully involved, 2 story wood framed dwelling and advised incoming units that it was a defensive fire. Battalion Chief 1-0 took command shortly after and requested master streams and aerial ops. Engine 10 and Engine 8 dumped their monitors while Platform-Ladder 11 raised their main. Multiple hydrants were tagged to supply the amount of water being flown. No injuries were reported and arson was called to the scene due to the home owners being out of town. Battalion Chief 6-0 held command on an arson fire in the 1500blk of Center St in the cities Dignowity Hill section of the city. Engine Co 3 checked out with heavy smoke and some fire showing on the Charlie/Delta corner of a single story, wood framed dwelling and advised that they would be pulling a preconnect. Engine 9 and Ladder 9 assisted 3’s crew with fire attack, ventilation, and a primary search. Engine 1 forward laid a supply line while Platform-Ladder 1 was on deck and assisted with salvage and overhaul operations. Overnight: Just before midnight last night, multiple companies were dispatched to a reported brush/grass fire in the vicinity of Houston St, IH-10, and W. W. White Road. Engine 18 and Engine 5 searched around for almost 15 min before they could find the source of the smoke and embers. Engine Co 18 checked out with a 1 story dwelling with fire going throughout and requested their “brush/grass” assignment be upgraded to a Working Box Alarm. Engine 18 dumped their monitor and knocked down the bulk of the fire while Engine 5 dumped their tank with a ground line. BC6-0 check out and transferred command and established a water shuttle with the motors on scene. The nearest hydrant was almost a quarter of a mile away as the crow flies. Crews were able to get it knocked down and under control after about an hour. Arson was quickly requested and was investigating the fire. Companies of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd battalions worked a 2-11 apartment fire with a fatality in the 100blk of Camelot Ct on the cities Southwest side. Engine 12 and Engine 33 checked out with heavy smoke coming from the middle of a “lightning bolt” shaped apartment and advised that they had a working fire. Engine 12 forward laid a supply line and found heavy fire coming from division two of a two story apartment building. Crews went interior and found heavy fire on the 2nd floor that ultimately broke through the roof prompting Platform 33 to throw their main up, crews to back out, and command to drop a 2nd alarm. Multiple hand-lines were put to use and crews were able to transition back and made an interior attack. Crews operating on the second floor were informed of a possible victim in the origin apartment who was found deceased. Arson was requested and a cause was unknown when I cleared the scene. Farwest side companies worked a structure fire in the 9700blk of Vale in the “Heritage” section of the city. Engine Co 44 check out with a fully involved structure, established command, advised that they would be pulling a 2.5” skid load and be forward laying a supply line. Upon Engine Co 35 and Platform-Ladder 35’s arrival, command was advising that they had exposure problems on all sides, fire and smoke coming from the house in the rear, and heavy fire still pushing from the garage. 35’s filled the second due engine and first in truck roles and completed the primary search, secured the water supply, and pulled multiple additional handlines along with Engine’s 45 and 36. East side crews worked a house fire in the 4100blk of Scarlet Oak Dr this Sunday afternoon. Engine 18 and Engine 54 checked out with fire and smoke showing from the B/C corner of a single story dwelling. Engine 18 was fire attack while 54’s secured a water supply. Engine 5 was search along with Ladder 9 while BC 6 held command. Engine 9 was assigned salvage after a large number of Christmas gifts were found and crews made an effort to prevent them from getting any water or fire damage. Northeast side companies worked a suspicious fire in an abandoned nursing home in the 4700blk of Goldfield Rd. Engine 38 checked out with heavy fire showing from the Alpha side, and advised that this would be a defensive fire. Platform-Ladder 38 set up on the Charlie side and threw their main up in preparations for aerial operations. Crews remained on scene for well over 2 hours completing overhaul operations.
