Structure Fires & Small jobs - San Antonio, TX - November 2017
Companies worked a 2-Alarm High Rise fire early this evening at a 10 story apartment building in the 1200 blk of Fair Ave on the cities SE side. Engine Co 29 checked out with nothing showing and advised all companies that they were investigating. Upon making the 7th floor, crews were faced with light to moderate smoke and found very heavy smoke coming from the fire apartment unit. Battalion 6-0 assumed command upon arrival and assigned Engine 13 to Lobby control and directed incoming units to assist with evacuation. Engine 29 began fire attack with a “house line” and at one point, fire was self venting from the Charlie Delta Corner. BC6 requested a 2nd alarm upon the fire venting. While other crews were fighting fire, Ladder 29 assigned to search, found a male victim who was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center/Brooks Army Medical Center priority 1 with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Engine 29 was able to get a quick knock down and crews assisted with evacuating all the residents, most of with were elderly. The fire was held to the origin apartment with minor to moderate smoke damage to surrounding apartments. Arson was called out and crews were on scene for well over 2 hours conducting overhaul and salvage operations. Engine 39 laid out on a small fire in a one story wood frame in the 100 Blk of Starlight Terrace on the cities NE side Sunday night. 39’s checked out with smoke showing on the Charlie side and pulled a preconnect. Engine 38 secured a supply line while 24’s and 38’s truck assisted in completing interior ops. Crews made quick work of the small fire and held it to the hot water heater. Companies on the ticket were EN24, EN38, EN39, PL38, M24, MAC41, MOF3, FSO and BC07.

No. 6 was dispatched to a reported “Extinguished Fire” and upon making it to the apartment in question found heavy smoke and heavy charing in the attic. Engine 6’s officer quickly upgraded the incident to a “Regular” or more commonly know as a “Box Alarm,” and pulled a redline to the second floor. Crews laddered the roof, pulled an additional redline off of Engine 4, and pulled ceiling checking for extension and followed the “Crocodile-ing” of the wood in the attic space above. Eventually vents were put in the roof and PPV’s placed at the door to allow smoke to exit. The fire was caused by a plumber soldering in the bathroom. Companies on the ticket were EN01, EN04, EN05, EN06, TK17, PL01, and BC08.
West side crews worked a Reported high rise Structure fire in the 200blk of N Comal St. PL11 and EN04 made the roof to find a burned out belt on an HVAC. All companies were released shortly after.
