Building Fire - 214 Dwyer St, San Antonio, TX - 7/9/17
Earlier this evening, downtown companies were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 224 Dwyer St. As units were checking in route, Central Fire Alarm advised that they were getting numerous calls of heavy smoke on the 3rd floor, and that the corrected address would be 214 Dwyer St. The fire was upgraded to a working fire. Engine Cō 11 and Tower Ladder 11 arrived to find a 3 story office building with heavy smoke on the 3rd floor, and advised that they would be making entry to the “fire” floor. A window was busted out as there was no standpipe in the stairwell and a high-rise pack off 11’s motor was pulled and put to work on the source of the smoke, which turned out to be a trashcan on fire. Crews were faced with a very challenging layout within the building which made ventilating the smoke extremely difficult. Multiple PPV fans were placed in the stairwells and an exhaust port on the roof was opened. Crews were on scene for well over 2 1/2 hours doing mop up and salvage operations for the other tenants of the office building. Companies on the ticket were EN11, EN04, EN03, EN07, EN01, EN05, PL11, PL01, TK06, HR11, M14, M07, MOF03, MOF04, ISO, MAC39, BC01, BC06 & the Fire Shift Commander
